Bantu Knots-Out on Dry 4c Natural Hair

Bantu knot outs are great and easy way to achieve cute curls without using heat. First I’ll share some useful tips on how to achieve the sleek curls, and then a couple of simple steps i used to achieve my first bantu knot out and flat twist on dry hair. This is a long and educative post so stick around and brace yourself 😉

Tips to Start with:

  1. Firstly you have to moisturize and detangle your hair so its smooth and manageable when styling, tangled rough hair will not achieve the curls you desire and it wouldn’t last.
  2. Try Doing bantu knots on dry hair, doing on wet/damp hair may cause hair to still be damp when you take it down. Also you wouldnt get that definition.
  3. Create sections according to the final look you desire. For example if you want a side part, you part your hair before doing the knot, if you want to flat braid/flat twist a section, you do this before you start parting the knots. Hope you get me? 😊cool!
  4. On take down, Do not separate or pull the knot apart (this was the mistake i made during my take down 🙈 but thanks to blacknaps for the correction, my next attempt will be better). Instead unscrew your hair to keep the curl form. Be gently and take your time.

Products Used:

  1.  Kinky curly Knot Today Detangler/ Leave-In conditioner (you can use any leave in conditioner of your choice): This will moisturize your hair and aid easy detangling.
  2.  Cantu shea butter for natural hair, moisturizing twist & lock gel (you can use any styler gel of choice): This will give that light hold, not crunchy when dry but moisturized.
  3. Coconut Oil for Take down (you can use any oil of choice): This Aids easy take down, adds shine to hair also.

Tools Used:

  1. A wide tooth comb for detangling.
  2. Denman Brush for detangling.
  3. Cutting comb for parting.
  4. Hair clips or band

STEPS:

  1. Apply moisturizing leave-in conditioner(little amount) all over the hair. At this point if your flat twisting/braiding, you section that part out and secure it with a band, then section remaining hair into 4-6 parts and secure with hair bands or clips.
  2. If your flat twisting/braiding, you flat twist at this stage so it doesnt disturb the rest of the hair or you forget to flat twist and do a bantu knot on it 😄. Apply your styler gel, detangle and flat twist.
  3. Open up a section (from the 4 you created earlier). Section hair into small squares using fingers or parting comb. The smaller the section, the curlier the hair will be
  4. Apply curling cream, pomade, butter or whatever setting product you choose (Avoid being too generous with product, but make sure to apply on every inch of hair).
  5. Detangle hair (be gentle since hair is dry)
  6. Once, you have your hair sectioned off the way you want it, twirl the hair and then roll it around itself. Got it??? 😆If you didnt get the twirling and rolling technique will leave a pictorial below.
  7. Allow to air dry overnight (dont forget to wear a satin scarf/bonnet) to sleep.
  8. Apply coconut oil on finger tips and take it down carefully, separete the curls for fullness.

This is how it looked on Day 3

I didint add any styler during the week, just water and more fluffing😊

Thanks loves for reading my whole yarn lol, dont forget to Comment, subscribe and share.

Oh nice! I’m definitely trying this out right away. But I wanna ask, will stretching my hair first (by threading) make a difference in my result?

Nice curls. I love how they look.

I have relaxed hair that looks very healthy and grows pretty fast. However, I am trying to transition into natural hair and it gets confusing and tiring. I never know how to style it properly. I have been using all the natural products sugggested on your channel and I must confess my natural roots look and feel good but I have problems styling it and I need help. Will this bantu work on my hair?

    • Jumoke sorry about that really!!!! But im happy your natural roots are healthy yaaay!!! And yess you can try this on transitioning hair. Your curls would be more defined. Make sure you allow it completely dry before taking it out. Hope to see your results soon. Thanks for stopping by 😚

Am thinking of dying my hair golden brown. Please Admin which dye product do you recommend. And hope dying my hair won’t affect my hair texture?

    Like

    • Well golden brown is light. So you have to lift your black / brown hair first with a neutral lifter like i did on the channel. Then you apply the desired color onit, your texture might amd may not change, depends. Also you can use temporary colors like , clairol or shea moisture., jazzing…. Permanent colors like creme of nature, textures and tones, dark & lovely

Checking out your blog is making me want to go natural; infact, I would have, but my only fear now is my hair is way too hard/stubborn, even when I’m late relaxing the hair, running my comb through it is always a major problem. What do u think I can do?

    • My dear there is nothing like hard natural hair. When ur hair was due it was painful while combing cus there r two textures and d natural part was dry. U shouldnt comb dry natural hair its a rule. U have to apply a leave in conditioner and dampen it with water b4 combing it will b as soft as foam
