Complete Wash Day Routine With NO Store Bought “Natural Hair Product”

Hi curly friends!!! You don’t have to break your pocket to have a successful wash day. I had an emergency wash day without my products cus I wasnt with them, my hair was overdue for cleansing (over a month) because I have been busy. I decided to share my experience with you all cus It went perfectly well.

Before (dull,Dry , frizzy) meets After (shiny, moisturized and curly)

What I did:

  1. Cleanse
  2. Deep Condition
  3. Black Tea Rinse
  4. Condition (With Apple Cider vinegar Rinse)
  5. Detangling & Moisturize with the L.O.C.S Method

1. CLEANSE:

Firstly I sectioned my hair into 6 then dampened my hair with warm water to lift buildups, because my hair was over due for washing and I had a lot of buildup from using heavy butters like Shea butter and cocoa butter during the past weeks.

Warm Water

I shampooed with raw African black soap section by section, focusing on my scalp not my hair strands! A little goes a long way cus it lathers. I washed once then rinsed and my hair was squeaky clean.

Black soap is a gentle exfoliator that gives our scalp a deep clean, which is essential for keeping our scalp cleansed and stripped of any dirt that may be clogging the hair follicles and pores. It removes excess oils from the scalp and hair, without removing essential natural oils in our scalp and on our hair, which keeps the moisture in and reduces dryness and damage.

African Black Soap is an antibacterial, anti-oxidant, anti-fungal, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and antiviral soap. It is a natural source of the vitamins A and E. It also contains iron oxides and it has natural healing properties.

2. DEEP CONDITION

I used 1 raw Egg yolk, 3 table spoons of Mayonnaise, 1 tea spoon of Apple cider vinegar, 1 table spoon of pure Honey, 1 tea spoon of Coconut Oil. Added all into a plastic bowl and mixed until smooth. It is best to mix the treatment by hand to avoid turning it into a liquid that won’t adhere to your hair. Add a teaspoon of vinegar or olive oil for extra shine if you have coarse hair.

Application: Dip hands into the mixture and pull it through hair from root to tip. Continue until hair is completely coated. I Covered with a plastic shower cap over hair. Then I applied a heat source. The heat will help the moisture soak into the hair (penetration). I left it in for 20 minutes and then rinse off completely with warm water.

 Mayonnaise Benefits

Mayonnaise contains many of the properties found in store-bought hair masks. It contains oils that deeply moisturize hair, making it ideal for dry or chemically processed hair. It also coats hair much like silicone to add shine and protect it from heat styling. The protein content replenishes weak strands to prevent breakage and encourages new growth from the root. Its combination of oil and protein make it a suitable option for those with fine hair who may find undiluted natural oils too heavy on their hair.

Egg Benefits

Eggs keep the hair’s natural oils intact so they are easy to comb through, resulting in less breakage. They are effective on hair that is thinning or damaged from heat styling and coloring. Eggs work well with mayonnaise, as they seal the cuticle to lock in moisture and make the results long lasting.

 3. BLACK TEA RINSE

I rinsed with Lipton black tea to aid penetration I used it warm. I have always used black tea and green tea for my hair during monthly wash days and it has reduced shedding alot for me.

Benefits of black tea on your hair:

-Black tea contains more caffeine than a cup of coffee. The caffeine blocks DHT, the hormone that is responsible for hair loss.

-Reduces shedding.

– Adds shine and softens hair.

– Darkens hair or brings out natural highlights.

–  Caffeine – Stimulate Growth

Did you know your hair follicles can take up several drugs and caffeine is one of them? Studies done once more on human hair in a petri-dish showed that the hair follicles do rapidly take up caffeine and this stimulates hair regrowth for hair previously showing signs of hair loss. (International Journal of Dermatology, pg 27-35, 2007).

– Amino acids – Stengthen Hair
Theanine is an amino acid that is unique to tea. A recent study showed that a purified extract of this amino acid could penetrate fully through to the hair cortex of bleach-damaged hair after a 10 minute soak at 30°C (Surface and Interface Analysis, pp 562-565, 2010). The study was designed to complement a previous investigation that related theanine to improving the mechanical strength of bleached hair. Even if your hair is not bleached, it is possible to accumulate damage to the cortex due to styling and combing as well as normal weathering. A tea rinse could be considered as a very mild protein treatment. Hmmm!!

Preparation and Application

Add 1-2 tea bags to 1 cup of boiled water ( this may vary depending on how much hair you have), let it steep for a few hours. Take the tea and pour on your hair, let it sit for 20-30 minutes.

*Warning: Black tea stains so be sure to wear an old shirt or something you don’t mind staining.

4. CONDITION (APPLE CIDER VINEGAR RINSE)

I rinsed with cold ACV to close cuticles, Its acidity is close to that of natural hair, it’s a good conditioner and cleaning agent and it’s also an effective germ killer.

 Preparation

Mix one cup of water with two to four tablespoons of vinegar to make your rinse. Slowly pour the mixture over your entire scalp, allowing it to run down the length of your hair (being careful not to get it in your eyes). Massage the mixture into your scalp, which will also serve to stimulate circulation and hair growth. After one to two minutes, rinse out the vinegar, or for extra conditioning, you can leave the rinse on your hair. This natural hair care product can be used once or twice a week or more often as needed.

Benefits

A. Balance Hair & Sebum pH

Our hair and the natural oil that comes from our scalp, known as sebum, have a pH level of between 4.5 and 5.5. When kept at this acidity level, the scalp is safeguarded against fungal and bacterial growth, ensuring healthy hair and skin. Unfortunately, many shampoos and other hair products disrupt this natural pH which can affect the cuticles of the hair and the condition of the scalp. Apple cider vinegar is naturally high in acetic acid and has a pH level which is close to that of human hair. Regularly rinsing with this vinegar can help bring your scalp and hair to its ideal acidity, especially if you have oily hair.

B. Antibacterial and Antifungal Properties

The acetic acid in apple cider vinegar is a potent antimicrobial which can kill bacteria and fungus, common underlying causes of dandruff and hair loss, making it a fantastic natural cure.

An ACV rinse is also a good preventative regimen – by maintaining the natural pH of your scalp, you’ll be creating a hostile environment for the fungus and bacteria that cause these issues.
Rinsing even once a week with an apple cider vinegar mixture has brought relief to many dandruff sufferers and prevented further flaking.

C. Cleansing and Clarifying
Using a multitude of products on our hair – like serums, gels, sprays, and masks – leads to product build-up. All this sticky residue can leave the hair looking flat, dull and lifeless.

One of the easiest ways to get rid of this accumulation and restore life to your locks is by using apple cider vinegar.

D. Add Natural Body & Define Curls

The Curl Manual claims that an apple cider vinegar rinse can make your curls ‘pop’, by bringing back their springy bounce! And, unlike conventional shampoo and conditioners, the vinegar won’t weigh down the individual strands, meaning you can enjoy more movement and natural body to your hairstyle. You may even find you don’t need to use heating and styling products after a vinegar rinse, saving your hair from further damage.

E. Detangle

A fantastic natural detangler, apple cider vinegar is usually used as an alternative to conditioner in the popular no ‘poo movement. It’s so effective as its natural acidity helps to smoothen down the cuticle – encouraging knots and tangles to slip out and allowing a brush to glide through more easily.

F. Reduce Frizz

Frizzy hair is caused by lifted cuticles on the hair. Smooth down the cuticles with apple cider vinegar and you’ll enjoy an overall smooth, frizz-free mane.

G. Add Shine

The cuticle’s position also affects the light reflecting properties of the strands. When the cuticle is down – as it is after an apple cider vinegar rinse – the hair is better able to reflect light, giving your ‘do a glossy, healthy appearance.

H. Reduce Porosity of the Hair

Normal hair allows necessary amounts of moisture to penetrate the outer cuticle, while porous hair absorbs liquid quickly…but loses it just as quickly.

High porosity is the result of damage to the hair from chemical treatments and environmental exposure. This irreversible destruction creates gaps and holes in the surface of the hair shaft leaving the hair more prone to further damage. While you can’t change the porosity of your hair, you can manage it by using an apple cider vinegar rinse to flatten the cuticle and minimize gaps.

I. Stimulate Hair Growth & Prevent Hair Loss

Apple cider vinegar stimulates better blood circulation to the hair follicles – something that is vital for encouraging hair growth and preventing hair loss. Furthermore, this blood carries essential nutrients to the hair follicle cells, strengthening the roots and promoting growth.

J. Prevent Split Ends & Breakage

By using an apple cider vinegar rinse regularly, you’ll be naturally removing tangles from your hair, closing the cuticles, improving porosity and encouraging stronger strands – all of which lead to a reduction in split ends and breakage.

 5. DETANGLE and MOISTURIZE (L.O.C.S METHOD)

Now this is the fun part, detangling and moisturizing!! I used water, coconut oil, aloe vera gel, and shea butter. The LOCS Method is the best way to moisturize and maintain moisture for a long period of time. Liquid which was water (the best moisturizer), Oil which was Coconut oil (or any other natural oil), Cream which was aloe vera gel a great moisturizer and softener, then finally Sealant which in this case was shea butter, a heavy butter that coats and seals the strands (you can use any other natural hair butter)

Aloe vera gel has 10001 benefits but lets look at the detangling and moisturizing aspect!! Aloe vera gel is a great moisturizer, styler gel, and detangler! For women with tightly coiled strands, natural oils are trapped at the root. Products with amino acids promote moisture and condition our hair. Aloe vera has 20 amino acids!

    Preparation

– CUT the aloe vera leaf from the stem upward
– USE a spoon to remove all the gel

– You can also mix with your favorite Oils

– APPLY it to damp hair, starting at the scalp and working your way down to the ends

– (For Detangling) Detangle gently with fingers (as a Styler) style hair as desired and unravel when dry e.g A twist out (as a leave in conditioner for LOCS Method) apply to damp hair, apply Oil, Aloe Vera Gel, then shea butter to seal in moisture. Like I did!
My hair was moisturized, soft and curly for over a week!!
